Navajo Nation and Nasa present

"Nasa and the Navajo Nation" is a collaborative project between the NASA and Navajo Nation education communities, specifically between the Department of Dine' Education Office of Culture, Language, and Community Service (ODLC) and NASA Astrobiology Institute. Our goal is to serve teachers and stuents on the Navajo Nation by combining science and cultural knowledge in a "dual-learning" environment. Toward that goal, the unique educational materials "So' baa hane'-Story of the Stars," which is a booklet of six classrooms activities, were co-developed and delivered to schools across the Navajo Nation. On behalf of NASA and the Department of Dine' Education, I would like to invite you to participate in a special two-day educator workshop with the So' baa hane' materials on January 28-29, 2010 in Window Rock, AZ. At the workshop both NASA scientist and a Navajo cultural expert will provide extensive background material in the science concepts and cultural information presented in the So' baa hane' booklet. We will also work in groups in groups to do in-depth training with the classroom activities in the booklet. Continuing Education Units for teachers will be offered through Navajo Technical College, and there is no fee for the workshop. Please contact Daniella Scalice if your interested in participating: 650.604.4024.
